GRAVITY FILTERS

For customers who do not have a reliable pressurised mains water supply, whether it is at home, on a campsite, or in a holiday cottage, a gravity filter enables you to have clean filtered drinking water on tap. Water is poured manually into the upper chamber. It passes through the filter candles under pressure of gravity into the lower chamber where the filtered water can be accessed via a tap on the front of the filter. FICL supplies two models:

SS GRAVITY FILTER

	The SS is fitted with 2, 3, or 4 filter candles depending on the flow rate required (more candles = higher flow rate).
	When fitted with Sterasyl™ filter candles, the output of the SS, assuming regular refilling of the upper chamber, will be approximately as follows:
	2 candles – 40 litres per 24 hours 3 candles – 60 litres per 24 hours 4 candles – 80 litres per 24 hours
	All SS filters have four holes to enable the fitting of up to 4 candles. The holes which are not in use are filled with removable rubber bungs.
	As standard, the SS takes candles which are 7 inches long, 2 inches in diameter, with a long mount and a wing nut.
	The SS should be fitted with either Sterasyl™ or Super Sterasyl™ candles.
	For ease of transport, the upper chamber fits into the lower chamber to save space.
	The capacity of the lower chamber is 10 litres.

IN-LINE PRESSURE FILTERS

In-line filters are highly robust as they are under water pressure all of the time. They were originally designed to be fitted to the mains cold water pipe underneath the kitchen counter. In addition to being used in the home, FICL’s in-line filters have proved very popular within the water cooler industry. They are easy to incorporate into cooler plumbing.

HIP

Made from food grade acetal and polyester, the HIP is a cost-effective and easy to use filter unit. It can be used either to filter all cold water running into the kitchen sink, or to provide filtered drinking water via a separate faucet.

	The HIP is fitted with one filter candle.
	As standard the HIP takes filter candles which are 10 inches long, 2 inches in diameter, with a short mount.
	A DIY kit is available with the HIP filter to enable easy fitting via a line piercing valve to 15mm copper pipes without the services of a plumber. The HIP DIY kit also provides all the fittings needed to install a separate drinking water faucet. For any other sizes of pipe or non copper pipes, a plumber or specialised installer should be consulted.
	Both inlet and outlet are 3/8 inch push fit connections suitable for 3/8 flexible plastic pipe.
	When fitted with Sterasyl™ filter candles, the HIP will produce a flow rate of approximately 300 litres per hour at 3 bar pressure.
	The HIP can be fitted with Sterasyl™, Carbosyl™, Supercarb™, Ultracarb™ or Ultracarb™ NSF filter candles.

HIP Double  

Made from food grade acetal and polyester, the HIP Double is an easy to use filter unit. It can be used either to filter all cold water running into the kitchen sink, or to provide filtered drinking water via a separate faucet or three-way faucet. The HIP Double is designed for areas where more than one water treatment cartridge is necessary. For example, in areas of high turbidity, a prefilter can be fitted in pod 1 to remove large particles from the water and avoid excessive cleaning of the ceramic filter. In areas where there are very high levels of chlorine in the water, an additional carbon block could be fitted in pod 1.

	The HIP Double is fitted with two filters - usually one prefilter and one ceramic filter candle.
	As standard the HIP Double takes filter candles which are 10 inches long, 2 inches in diameter, with a short mount.
	A DIY kit is available with the HIP Double filter to enable easy fitting via a line piercing valve to 15mm copper pipes without the services of a plumber. HIP Triple

Made from food grade acetal and polyester, the HIP Triple is an easy to use filter unit. It can be used either to filter all cold water running into the kitchen sink, or to provide filtered drinking water via a separate faucet. The HIP Triple is designed for areas where more than one water treatment cartridge is necessary. Made from polished stainless steel with a chrome plated brass head, the attractive, robust, and easy to use HIS unit is designed to be fitted to the cold water pipe underneath the kitchen counter. It can either be used to filter all cold water running into the kitchen sink, or to provide filtered drinking water via a separate faucet.

	The HIS is fitted with one filter candle.
	As standard, the HIS takes filter candles which are 10 inches long, 2 inches in diameter, with a short mount.
	Water inlet and outlet are ½ inch BSP connections.
	When fitted with Sterasyl™ filter candles, the HIS will produce a flow rate of approximately 300 litres per hour at 3 bar pressure.

COUNTER TOP PRESSURE FILTERS

Counter top filters are very popular with people who want very easy access to their water filters, and also in areas of the world where people are keen to demonstrate that their water is filtered.

HCP

The HCP is extremely easy to install and uninstall, making it portable. It is the ideal solution for people who move house on a regular basis, for example students, business people, or diplomats.

The HCP attaches to the existing mixer tap in the kitchen via a divertor valve. In one position, this valve enables unfiltered water to run directly into the sink. In the other position, it passes water into the filter unit and filtered water comes out of the outlet arm on the HCP unit.

	The HCP is fitted with one filter candle.
	As standard, the HCP takes filter candles which are 10 inches long, 2 inches in diameter, with a short mount.
	When fitted with Sterasyl™ filter candles, the HCP will produce a flow rate of approximately 300 litres per hour at 3 bar pressure.
	The HCP can be fitted with Sterasyl™, Carbosyl™, Supercarb™, or Ultracarb™ filter candles.
	The HCP comes with an adaptor pack so that it should fit most common types of tap.

HBA MkI

This wall mounted filter is made of die-cast aluminium which is coated with food quality nylon. Filtered water passes out through the oulet arm on the HBA MkI unit.

	The HBA MkI is fitted with one filter candle.
	As standard, the HBA MkI takes filter candles which are 10 inches long, 2 inches in diameter, with a short mount.
	Water inlet is a ½ inch BSP connection.
	When fitted with Sterasyl™ filter candles, the HBA MkI will produce a flow rate of approximately 300 litres per hour at 3 bar pressure.
	The HBA MkI can be fitted with Sterasyl™, Carbosyl™, Supercarb™, or Ultracarb™ filter candles.

HBA MkII

This wall mounted filter is made of food grade acetal and polyester. Filtered water passes out through the oulet arm on the HBA MkII unit.

	The HBA MkII is fitted with one filter candle.
	As standard, the HBA MkII takes filter candles which are 10 inches long, 2 inches in diameter, with a short mount.
	Water inlet is a ½ inch BSP connection.
	When fitted with Sterasyl™ filter candles, the HBA MkII will produce a flow rate of approximately 300 litres per hour at 3 bar pressure.
	The HBA MkII can be fitted with Sterasyl™, Carbosyl™, Supercarb™, or Ultracarb™ filter candles.

MULTI-CANDLE PRESSURE FILTERS

For customers in need of a higher flow rate, for example, filtering the water for their whole house, a multi-candle pressure filter is the ideal solution.

Rio 2000 Filter Module 

The unique and proprietary Rio 2000 filter module has been designed to fit industry standard 10 inch jumbo housings (Big Blue type and similar).

	Drinking quality water at truly high flow rates (up to 2000 litres or 520 gallons per hour).
	Ideal for whole house filtratiion or small industrial applications.
	The large filtration area offers good flow rates even at low water pressure
	The module requires 6 x 8 inch long x 32mm diamater Sterasyl filter candles.

P3

The wall mounted P3 is made of die-cast aluminium which is coated with food quality nylon. Filtered water passes out through the oulet arm on the P3 unit.

	The P3 is fitted with 3 filter candles.
	As standard, the P3 takes filter candles which are 10 inches long, 2 inches in diameter, with a long mount and a wing nut.
	Water inlet is a ½ inch BSP connection.
	It is possible to remove the outlet arm if you want to run the P3 in-line. The outlet arm unscrews to leave a ½ inch BSP female threaded connection. To use as an in-line filter the outlet connection should ideally be made using a flexible hose to enable the lid of the filter to be removed for candle cleaning and replacement.
	When fitted with Sterasyl™ filter candles, the P3 will produce a flow rate of approximately 900 litres per hour at 3 bar pressure.
	Due to the high volume of water passing through the unit, the P3 should only be fitted with Sterasyl™ filter candles.

OTHER MAKES OF HOUSING

FICL makes candles and cartridges which fit other (non FICL) makes of filter housing. It will often be possible to upgrade a filter housing by fitting a Doulton® or British Berkefeld® ceramic candle or cartridge, whether or not a ceramic element has been installed in the filter housing before.

It should be possible to fit a FICL candle to filter housings which take a candle with a threaded mount. The FICL standard mount is ¼ inch BSP thread, which is widely used within the industry.

For housings which take a cartridge rather than a candle, the industry standard is a 10 inch filter housing. FICL produces 9 ¾ inch (248-250mm) ceramic cartridges to fit these housings. FICL also produces candles and cartridges in various sizes with a range of special mounts to fit other non-standard types of filter housing.

WHAT IS A FILTER CANDLE?

The ceramic of a filter candle is cast in such a way that it has one domed closed end. The other end of the ceramic is open. This open end is closed off with a food grade plastic mount, which enables the candle to fit into a filter housing. Water passes from the outside of the candle to the inside, leaving particles of dirt, bacteria, etc. on the outside of the ceramic. The filtered water then passes out of the candle through the mount.

Cartridges are available as standard in two sizes - Slimline and Imperial. Bespoke lengths and or mounts might be possible for significant quantities. Please contact the FICL sales department with any specific requests.

STERASYL™

At the heart of all FICL’s filters is the Sterasyl™ ceramic. The ceramic is impregnated with silver to make it self-sterilising. Silver inhibits the growth of bacteria. Sterasyl™ ceramics have a tightly controlled complex pore structure, which has unparalleled filtration properties. Sterasyl™ is effective in both gravity and pressure filters.

Benefits:
With its Absolute filtration rating (defined as >99.99%) of 0.9 microns, Sterasyl™ is highly effective against particulate contamination, pathogenic bacteria, cysts etc.

SUPER STERASYL™

The Sterasyl™ ceramic is filled with granular activated carbon to produce the Super Sterasyl™ filter element. Among other things, activated carbon is very effective at removing chlorine and organics from water.

Super Sterasyl™ uses granular activated carbon instead of an activated carbon block in order to give superior flow rates in a gravity filter. Granular carbon is not as effective as a carbon block under pressure conditions. Therefore, in a pressure filter, Supercarb™ should be used for chlorine and organics removal.

Benefits:
Super Sterasyl™ has all the benefits of Sterasyl™ (removal of particles, pathogenic bacteria, cysts etc.), with additional chlorine and organics removal capabilities.

The Sterasyl™ ceramic is filled with granular activated carbon and an ion exchange resin to produce the ATC Super Sterasyl™ filter element. Among other things, activated carbon is very effective at removing chlorine and organics from water, while the ion exchange resin removes heavy metals, in particular lead.

Super Sterasyl™ uses granular activated carbon instead of an activated carbon block in order to give superior flow rates in a gravity filter. Granular carbon is not as effective as a carbon block under pressure conditions. Therefore, in a pressure filter, Ultracarb™ should be used for chlorine, organics, and lead removal.

Benefits: 

ATC Super Sterasyl™ has all the benefits of Sterasyl™ (removal of particles, pathogenic bacteria, cysts etc.), with additional chlorine, organics and lead removal capabilities.

CARBOSYL™

The Sterasyl™ ceramic is impregnated with activated carbon to produce the black Carbosyl™ filter element. Among other things, activated carbon is very effective at removing chlorine and organics from water. Carbosyl™ is designed to be used in pressure filters (on a mains water supply), not in gravity filters.

Benefits:
Carbosyl™ has all the benefits of Sterasyl™ (removal of particles, pathogenic bacteria, cysts etc.) with additional chlorine and organics removal capabilities. In addition, Carbosyl™ is particularly effective at removing chloroform.

SUPERCARB™

The Sterasyl™ ceramic is fitted with an activated carbon block insert to produce the Supercarb™ filter element. Among other things, activated carbon is very effective at removing chlorine and organics from water. Supercarb™ is designed to be used in pressure filters (on a mains water supply), not in gravity filters.

Benefits:
Supercarb™ has all the benefits of Sterasyl™ (removal of particles, pathogenic bacteria, cysts etc.) with additional chlorine and organics removal capabilities.

ULTRACARB™

The Sterasyl™ ceramic is fitted with both an activated carbon block and an ion exchange resin insert to produce the Ultracarb™. Among other things, activated carbon is very effective at removing chlorine and organics from water. The ion exchange resin specifically removes lead from water. Ultracarb™ is designed to be used in pressure filters (on a mains water supply), not in gravity filters.

Among other things, activated carbon is very effective at removing taste and odour from water. The ion exhange resin specifically removes lead from water. Ultracarb™ NSF is designed to be used in pressure filters (on a mains water supply), not in gravity filters.
